About Me

As a creative, natural hair and makeup artist based in Norwich, I am constantly inspired by the beauty of art, music and nature. My passion for beauty and creativity is reflected in my unique styles and techniques. I believe that every person is beautiful in their own way and my job is to highlight their natural features and enhance their beauty without masking it.

I am constantly learning and exploring new styles, textures and colours; drawing inspiration from the world around me. I derive great joy from the process of creating something beautiful and unique, and it is this passion that drives me to provide top-quality services to my clients as your artist

Hey!

I’m Ashley Kay , your hair and makeup artist and fully licensed and experienced, tattoo artist, microblader and dermaplaner.

I’m based in Norwich but once you get to know me, you’ll realise I was born in Texas and raised in California - though it’s hard to pin point where I’m from as I’ve also lived in the UK for 22 years.

I have a teen son and partner who encourage me in my art and everything I do!

I'm a commercial and luxury Bridal Hair & Makeup Artist with over 16hr in the industry- having worked all over the world and UK on photoshoots as well as large and intimate weddings.

I am known for my natural approach to hair and makeup, creating an aesthetic which is modern and beautiful for my clients, brands and brides from all over the world. My aim is to enhance and elevate natural beauty, not mask it!

I had a passion for art, interior design, fashion and music from a very young age , so it wasn’t a surprise to anyone when I built a business that allowed me to artistically express myself through this form of art. Aside from training as a watercolourist, interior illustrator and designer, I also have a degree in psychology and social sciences which I find ties in wonderfully with my creative business, giving me the tools to listen and understand my client’s wants and needs while utilising my artistic skills.

How did it all begin, you ask?

I would say it started when I was about 8, but the real budding of my career began in 2004 when I moved to London to work for a children’s television company (the creator of Bob the Builder - and yes, it was a ton of fun!). When the girls in the office would go to the BAFTAS , I would do their hair and makeup for them, to help them out. It was then that I realised that I really needed to get back to doing something creative with my hands.

I jumped ship, left TV and began working in a photographic studio in Chelsea then soon after, went freelance as a hair and makeup artist in 2008, where things really kicked off.

I moved out of London and my career in fashion, wedding hair and makeup really took off. I was soon doing 40+ weddings a year and training up assistants to give myself and clients a helping hand!

You will now find me doing weddings most weekends, covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, Scotland and Destination weddings. It is not uncommon to see me in, France, Greece, Italy, Spain or Croatia, Greece , working on brides and their bridal parties! But it doesn’t stop there. I regularly work on corporate photoshoots and videos in, Norfolk, the Cambridge Colleges and businesses nationwide.

Things that I am proud of in my career so far!

Some of my highlights include work in high end magazines such as VogueElleYou and Your WeddingVelvetCambridge Magazine and Rock My Wedding magazines. My work has also been featured on top wedding blogs, Magpie Wedding, Festival Brides, English Wedding Blog, Pretty and Punk Weddings,  StyleMePretty and My English Wedding.

My career doesn’t stop at weddings!

I love to learn and am constantly looking at new ways to grow as an artist and the reward of creating naturally beautiful hair and makeup spurred me on to gain further qualifications in naturally enhancing beauty treatments. I am a a fully qualified microblader based in my beautiful studio in Norwich- creating hairstroke effect brows through a semi-permanent makeup technique. Because I have a delicate approach to makeup, this was a natural stepping stone for myself because it allowed me to make a positive impact on my clients that lasted longer than one single day.

I am also an artist and have moved into tattooing to create beautiful pieces of artwork for my clients. Ranging from botanicals, food related drawings, florals, and even buildings!

When I have time, I am also filming my own hair, makeup and beauty tutorials for my own clients and followers. You will sometimes find my son features in my videos and he often is involved in the editing process!

What am I up to when I’m not working?

You will typically find me either painting, obsessing over interior design, drawing interiors, painting fruit and vegetables and completing commissions of artwork, travelling the world with my son and partner and listening to music! I never stop moving, learning and trying new things!
